Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that the 3D theatrical launch of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace now has an official release date – February 10, 2012! Set against the thrilling and exotic backdrop of a “galaxy far, far away,” Star Wars is perfectly suited to the immersive 3D theatrical experience, and Episode I delivers some of the Saga’s most stunning and spectacular sequences – from the Naboo invasion to the Tatooine Podraces to the climactic lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi. Supervised by Industrial Light & Magic, the meticulous conversion is being done with utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.

Finally all the 6 starwars films will be together in one pack on Blu-ray this September  and you can pre-order via online retailers today!. The Complete Saga has a price of $89.99 on Amazon and the individual trilogies for $44.99 a trilogy.

The Blu-ray format will be in three different forms:

  • Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films)
  • Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)
  • Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)

Is this for real?

IESB is reporting that George Lucas is “plotting to create” new Star Wars movies which would be released after the six three 3D re-releases and would take place far in the future, not relating to the Skywalkers.

But after this rumour was online an spokesman said this:
“This is, of course, completely false,” Lucasfilm spokesman Josh Kushins wrote :

“George Lucas has plenty of projects to keep him busy right now — including plenty of Star Wars projects — but there are no new Star Wars feature films planned.”

But the story did not end there, because IESB ,  reportsthat while working on the 3D conversions of the new films, which will begin in 2012 with Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Lucas “has gotten the itch.” He has “gotten motivated with the success the Clone Wars animated series, the video games and also with the success of Avatar.”

The sequels, not prequels, would not focus on the Skywalkers, but instead be set in the future. Same universe, but totally different story. By doing this, Lucas doesn’t have to fit pieces into a puzzle like he had to do with the prequels. And he has stated that that process was creatively constricting to him.

So, apparently, his plan is work on all the 3D movies, make several hundred million more dollars, then use that money to make new movies  – hopefully releasing the first one within a year or two of the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi 3D release would would be in like 2017.

What do you think?…Would you like to see this rumour become real?

As we reported yesterday, George Lucas wants to release the 6 Star Wars movies in 3D in 2012. Just few minutes ago we got confirmation that the Episode 1: The Phantom menace is set to be released the next February 2012.

Lucas will release each subsequent Star Wars film at the same time each year for the next five years.

George Lucas has decided that we’ll have enough 3D screens by 2012, for a the launch of the mastered 3D versions of all six Star Wars films.

The Phantom Menace would be first, with the releases following in chronological story order around the same time next year, so long as each proves financially successful. Moreover, apparently the 3D Star Wars films will have one release  per year from 2012 through 2017.

LucasFilm is developing a new Star Wars TV series, which would be an animated comedy.  During a Q&A session at C2E2 on Saturday Steve Sansweet, LucasFilm’s Director of Fan Relations, revealed that this new animated series would feature the post-Return of the Jedi adventures of the original characters. It happened when a fan asked, “I would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia,” to which Sansweet replied, “And you will, in the new animation.”

But after the Q&A, in an interview with ForceCast.net, Sansweet seemed to backtrack and insisted that he was “in the dark” and did not know exactly what would the new series would be about.  He said that it could possibly feature “characters from the original trilogy, the prequels [or] new characters,” but that it will most likely be a mix of all of the above.  For more on what Sansweet does know about the series, hit the jump.

Sansweet also said that contrary to what has been widely reported, Robot Chicken’s Seth Green and Matthew Senreich are not “at the helm” of the show, but are merely “creative consultants”, also one of the writers is also a writer on The Daily Show.  The show is a comedy, but it is not a sit-com, iIt is intended for “all ages/all audiences”

About George Lucas, he “got some ideas” for character design from the Galactic Heroes line of toys

Excited or worried?

Lucasfilm Animation is developing a Star Wars animated comedy TV series with Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich.
Here’s what Seth Green had to say about the TV series:
“The ‘Star Wars’ universe is so dense and rich; it’s crazy to think that there aren’t normal, mundane everyday problems in a world so well-defined. And it’s even crazier to think of what those problems might be, since it’s all set in a galaxy far, far away. What do these characters do when they’re not overthrowing Empires?”

Cant Believe finally we have a preview of the upcoming Starwars game…one of the most waited by the fans!
