Thanks again to our friends of Roadshow films we watched “Arthur” before the film hit cinemas. Check our movie review and remember there is no absolute true in any review, you have to go to your local cinema and watch the film, there is no better critic than yourself!

Director Jason Winer (Modern family tv series) brings the hilarious Russell Brand (Get him to the Greek) as “Arthur”, a remake of  Steve Gordon’s 1981 film.

The story is simple, a drunken billionaire playboy, played by the British comedian, has to give up his wild ways and marry Susan, a wicked woman (Jennifer Garner – Alias, Daredevil) looking to climb the ladder. If he doesn’t he’ll lose his inheritance, the problem is after he accepts the marriage, he falls in love with a sweet NY tour guide and has to decide between his money or true love.

The film has plenty of funny moments, and its obvious if you have somebody like Brand on the screen, but there is also another very interesting character who makes the film keep going: Arthur’s nanny played by Helen Mirren (The Queen, Red) who shows another face, keeping his elegant acting in a great level and at the same time making the public smile more than one time. The two have an amazing chemistry and their interactions are some of the best parts of the film. Mirren brings a strong presence to the film, which is the perfect balance to Brand’s chaos.

Another important character is Greta Gerwig (No strings attached), the love interest of Brand in the film, a hard role if you consider that Liza Minnelli played the same role in the original. Geraldine James (Sherlock Holmes) portrays Arthur’s mother Vivienne, a woman who has grown tired of her son’s shenanigans and closing the circle is Jennifer Garner playing “the evil” bride who wants the money of Arthur’s family.

The movie is a good remake, and pretty much because Russell Brand told at the Sydney’s press conference that Dudley Moore was his idol and he had so much respect for him and the original film. So he was totally inspired doing the film.

The film itself is an “Arthur” for this generation with lot of  “Brand’s moments”  a worthy remake.

Also don’t forget to check our full coverage “On The Spot” for Arthur’s press conference in Sydney and the Australian premiere of the film with Brand himself walking the red carpet!

Arthur hits cinemas on Thursday April 21th

Remember, our reviews don’t have the absolute truth, actually we share the idea that there is no review 100% accurate, because we think that everyone has to be their own critic and the best way to do a review of a film, a concert, etc is doing it yourself, going and experiencing all “on the spot”…so don’t wait and go to see “Arthur” and give us your personal opinion.

The press conference of Warner Bros’ ARTHUR was held at the Ivy’s sunroom this Thursday April 14th, 2011 in Sydney. Media from different platforms and photographers enjoyed a great venue attended by the always hilarious Russell Brand who is in the country to promote the film and walk through the Red carpet tomorrow at Hoyt’s Bondi Junction.

Brand, that just landed down under this morning, pointed out Australia as  “his favourite customs in the world”, and joked about bringing fruit to the country screaming “long live to the aussie apple!”

The British comedian defended the remake of Arthur from the flat critic obtained in America saying that a remake is always difficult, specially when the old classic is that good. He explained his admiration for Dudley Moore, the actor who played the eccentric millionare in the 1981 movie, adding that he was very proud to be part of the new Arthur.

Russell expressed how much he loved to work with the amazing and talented actress Helen Mirren (The Queen, Red). He explained his relationship with Mirren as an “unconsummated love affair, it is just an erotic intellectual tangle of emotions”, he also added how much he loves her work and the great respect that he feels for her.

The press conference was full of funny moments, even with an impression of Nick Nolte. Russell also talked about the attention he was getting lately with new wife Katy Perry and explained how they handle press and media in difficult moments: Using his “Pink Tshirt bodyguard” to protect himself even in an eventual fight with Rod Steward, he joked. Furthermore, he confirmed that he will not meet his wife in Australia.
